"Good job, not enough recognition"

date: July 5, 2009

Studio quality sir. Your mixing was the first thing I noticed to be honest. Your effect channels and envelopes blended in with amazing quality, the percussion work was great. Arrangement is more than good. The mastering? Superb.

The only thing I expected and did not really get was a bit more of a "bang" in the beginning (0:46). It appeared something could be there.

This track deserves more recognition, good job man.

"Great work!"

A nice even flow between everything with great twists and turns throughout the song. The vocal clip fits right in with the song, and the arpish melody just flows! Great work, as usual!

I'm amazed... I'm not going to lie, when you left a review I thought, "oh just another young kid who doesn't know what he's doing wants some critique, ok..." But I can hear all the effort put into this song. the mastering is awesome, the only thing I would dull down is the reverb on the kick towards the end of the song, everything else is awesome!

Your synths, percussion choices, leads, melodies, bass line, everything, has such a nice flow from one bar to the next. If I ever had the chance to view the project I would probably flip while looking at it. You had me from the introduction man, the square synth caught my ear and didn't let me go. Great work man, I expect to hear more and more from you.

Author's Response:

Wow thanks for the review I'm going to spend some time on the response for this one lol. As for what you thought, I honestly would have thought that too but I want to get as much feedback as possible on this song. As far as the mastering goes, I did spend a ton of time doing that since my last song that I deleted failed at it... hard lol. And for the reverb on the kick I could see how you could think thats the kick but acually what is making that reverb is the cymbal, I kept it because I liked the effect it added on the spot, it was a total fluke but it sounded great lol. I think the reason all my synths had such a nice flow together was because I all hand-made them from the default preset of whatever vsti I used. I'm not going to lie I did use nexus once or twice, but I still customized that a ton in the mixer. I love the mixer :P. Oh and believe me you don't want to look at the project file my cpu was 100 the whole time while making this song lol. It's ironic how I found the "smart plugin disable macro" after I finished making this song. Before I finish this response just to let you know that synth is 100% sawtooth but it does sound like a square xD. It is also 100% made custom from synth1. Thanks for the review I appreciate it.

"Not bad, but not the best it could be."

date: November 28, 2008

It's missing a few things, I can tell that, but it definitely is not crap! Compression could be used on the drums and some additional melodies could be thrown on it. Also, tweak the presets a bit.

The kick could be a bit harder, I would throw it into the mixer and slap the Fast Dist effect on it. The drums are ok but need to be thrown in more and have a bit more put into them.

The synth is good but it's the only thing there! It sounds like it just wants to build up to something awesome but never gets there. Transitions also need a bit of work.

PS: If you don't mind, I would love to take a crack on either remixing it or working on it with you, shoot me a PM - this song has a lot of potential!

Author's Response:

I know what you mean with building to nothing, I have the same feeling about it. I just can't think of something... And yeah compression and fast dist would deffinatly help to boost this song a lil up, but I am not the best in mastering so I am afraid I will screw it up.

About your request: I am sure gladly to be assistance to send you the FLP to make an remix. But also like you said, I'll take the 'working on it with me' part. It would help me more to understand on how things are done in FL studio. I am just still an newbie in it. ;P

Manny thanks for he helpfull and wel divined review!! ;)

I was honestly expecting it to break out in DnB! I would have loved that... maybe take a try? lol

Synth was awesome, automation was sweet, and I just liked the entire thing overall! Very good job!

"Improvement:"

date: November 24, 2008

1. Transitions
They suck... you need more of a transition between elements. Try a short snare roll with a bit of automation, volume automation, filter (cutoffs, frequency, etc...) automation. That's one key.

2. Melody
There was pretty much none for the first have of the song. The last half had the same thing over and over. Diversity is the key! Oh, and the hits? Loose 'em. lol

3. Bass
Kick it up more! Bass is what you need to give your song oomph.

4. Drums
Compression, volume levels. Arrangement of the drums were good though. Simplistic and they fit!

So your drums were just samples thrown together? If so nice job on the arrangement. Great cover... I'll check out some of your other work for sure.

"Sweet synth!"

date: November 24, 2008

Very sweet synth and awesome drum recording! Very professional drum recording man! As for the guitar, it's a bit dirty but still sounding good. The drums get muffled, so throw some compression on it and turn up the levels!

Close to house, but over done a bit. House is more chordy and brighter for the most part. I would call this ambient trance personally.

Nice use of pads! Crank the bass up, put a compression on the drums and you'll be good to go! A bit more of diversity would be sweet as well as some automation in the volume. Overall good job!

Lots of unique samples in here. It would definitely fit right into a game or movie scene! The synth was awesome, however I wasn't a fan of the chords. The stuttering is something I've always been a sucker for too. And as for the Aphex Twin comment, you better believe it ties in!

Again, good job and keep it up!
